High Performance Computing

High Performance Computing (HPC) does make sense: not only to calculate the origin of the universe but also for smaller and middle range projects. This means that computing intensive procedures (for example 3D / LiDAR-Processing) will be done via cloud computing and/or GPU computing a fast and cost efficient way.

Normal processors (CPU) in desktop systems are not the first choice anymore to effectively execute complex procedures. Modern graphic processors (GPU) with their more than 1000 integrated cores in comparison to usual 4- to 8-core-CPUs offer a huge potential to speed up complex calculations.

GEOSCAP offers:

◌ Porting of computing intensive processes on GPUs with a reduction of the calculation time up to factor 10
◌ Usage of Cloud Computing to outsource data processing
